About Us

Jyoti Vidyapith was established on March 13, 1987, with the aim of serving the community by strengthening the foundation of mother tongue education and nurturing the new generation to become complete individuals. Later, it was renamed Golap Chandra Misra Memorial Education Center, Jyoti Vidyapith, on a permanent basis. The original managing committee, with its 37 years of experience, continues to manage the institution efficiently.

Institution Infrastructure

As an Assamese-Medium school, Jyoti Vidyapith is complete in itself to beat any scale of comparison with the respective schools of other equivalent mediums. The institution is well equipped with a three-storey tuition-building, a computer-lab, a library with well-spaced reading room, a museum, a science-lab, a playground, an auditorium as well as office rooms. With a view to offering a sound and fruitful reading environment to our students, the classrooms are provided with all the needed learning materials. In order to maintain the decorum among the students, each storey has a teacher’s common room. The school owns its own DG to ensure that lack of electricity does not hinder our everyday teaching-learning process. The campus is well surrounded by strong boundary to ensure safety and each classroom is equipped with proper disaster-management tools.

Medium of Education

Along with many an esteemed academic scholars of the world, UNESCO itself has approved that the mother-tongue is the best medium of education for a child. Complying with this amicable opinion, Jyoti Vidyapith has proudly adapted to the use of Assamese language as the medium of education for the students.

Jyoti Vidyapith puts tremendous importance on the English Language

The world has turned into a global village. Science and technology are the prime impetus of this new era. This new age demands our students to be moulded to become the global-citizens of the future. The English language is a part and parcel in attaining that need. Therefore, the institution has laid tremendous importance on the study of English language. Through the practice of Spoken English, we try to improve our students’ English speaking capabilities.

Our Classrooms

So far our classroom count is 15. We impart lessons from Montessori to Twelfth class. From the academic year of 2018, we have also added pre-school. Proper Montessori Method is used in the Montessori classes.

The minimum age for admission in LKG is 3 years and 6 months whereas the minimum age for admission in the novel-added pre-school is fixed on 2 years and 6 months. For admission in the other classes, special test-exams are conducted and only those candidates passing the very tests are allowed admission.

School Curriculum

We incorporate the same importance in the teaching of both English and Hindi languages in our classrooms. The curriculum recommended by Assam Samagra Shiksha Mission is followed from class 1 to 8. Till class 5, curriculum for the subjects-English, Hindi and Art is decided by the institution itself. The elective subjects offered in class 9 and 10 are Hindi, History, Advanced Mathematics, Computer Science and Geography. The study of computer science is made compulsory from class 2 to class 8. With our best experienced and qualified tutors, Spoken English has also been added in our curriculum from 2016. To make sure that our students can gain access to the information of the whole world, we have provided sound facilities of digital classes.

Library

Trying to bring intellectual-upliftment among the students without a library is a quest with no end. With a splendid edifice, Jyoti Vidyapith has a rich library. Around 7000 Books on literature, culture, science, social science, religion, career guide, information-technology, history, geography, educational-psychology etc. not only in English but also in Assamese and Hindi languages too have been garnered in the library.

Provision for issuing or reading of books are available throughout the week. It is mandatory for our students that they should inculcate the habit of reading books in the library. The library has a well-spaced and well-equipped reading room too.

Student Uniform

The students have to wear the uniform as per the school’s rules. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, light blue t-shirt, black trouser, black skirt, white socks are to be worn. During the winter, long white inners are allowed under the t-shirt. On the remaining days of the week, black trouser, skirt and checked light blue shirt are to be worn along with blue socks and blacks shoes. Chocolate coloured sweaters and slexs/leggings (for girls) can be worn in the winter. Uniform prescribed for the students from the eleventh class are checked shirt, black trouser, black tie, black skirt and black shoes along with white socks. Navy-blue blazers are to be worn on the winter.

School Examinations

The examination pattern per year consists of four unit-tests, one half-yearly and an annual test. The schedules of each examinations are pre-mentioned in the school’s academic- calendar. The calendar contains the precise planning of an academic-year of the institution. The school offers a rich platform for the students by conducting and managing various talent- search examination.

Faculties

From pre-school to twelfth class, our lessons are taught by the best qualified and experienced teachers. We have three experienced teachers against each subject who impart lessons through proper planning. In addition to that, we also have specialised tutors against the co-scholastic subjects such as music, art, sports etc. Our teachers offer the best academic cooperation through phone and over the network to the students.

To ensure proper management of the official works, an accountant and four office- assistants are also posted in the institution. As fourth-grade employees, three nurse-maids, two securities in the day shifts and two in the night shifts, an electrician and a sweeper have also been posted.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

To strengthen the relationship among the students, guardian as well as the teachers and to let the guardians voice their valuable suggestions regarding the students’ holistic development, we organize regular guardian meetings. Besides, each year a guardian conference is also conducted with proper planning of date and venue.

Performance in The HSLC Examination

Since establishment, this 37 year-old school has led total 24 batches across the threshold of the HSLC Examination. In 1998, the first batch sat for the examination. Till now, average 99.90% of students have successfully passed. Since inception to the year 2024, the number of students acquiring First Division is 1898; 292 students have passed with Distinction whereas Star-marks scorers are 469. In addition to that, 7 students have secured standing marks hence achieving positions in the state.

Scouts and Guides

‘Bharat Scouts and Guides’ is considered to be one of the most esteemed and biggest educational organisation. Founded in 1914 by Lord Baden-Powell, its ultimate goal is to build a strong moral character among the students. Its main motto is to stay prepared to tackle any situation in life. In our school, we introduced ‘Scouts and Guides’ in 2003 and since then, adequate training have been given to our students by the best trained teachers. In the national ‘Cultural exchange Program’ held in New Delhi, our scouts and guides participated and shone with colours bringing glory to the institution.

Tiffin for the students

In our institutional rule, proper lunch is mandatory for the students. They have to bring vegetarian dishes in tiffin. We prioritize that the students take light food as their lunch that has been prepared in home. There is a mineral water tower ATM in the campus to provide fresh drinking water to our students which is completely free.

Educational Tours

Travel is a part and parcel of the whole academic experience. Owing to this truth, we have been arranging regular educational trips since 1999. At first, we emphasised on visiting various historical places like Sivasagar. But with time, keeping relevance to the students’ syllabus, we changed our trips relating to environmental studies. Though Lachit Moidam, Gibon Sanctuary, Rainforest Research Institute, Janjimukh, Kokilamukh etc had been our most popular destination, since 2013, we are focusing on various places of Guwahati and different districts as well as environmentally important areas on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra.

Jyoti Fine-Arts Education Centre

In our sister-organization of the school ‘Jyoti Fine-Arts Education Centre’, regular classes on art, tabla, guitar as well as singing are organised on each Saturday and Sunday.

Various School-Programs

A few of the most important and popular programs celebrated by the school are Saraswati Puja, Establishment Day, Annual Friendly-Convention Teachers Day etc. In addition to these, Farewell Program for the students of Class X, Prize Distribution of the School-Week are also organised and celebrated with full enthusiasm. Bishnu Rabha-Divas, Silpi-Divas, Birth as well as Death Anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika, Students Day, World Environment Day, National Science Day are one of the significant days that are celebrated in our school.

‘Jyotishman’- The Mouthpiece of our School

The school magazine provides the best platform for literary practice to the students. Since 1999, Jyoti Vidyapith has been regularly publishing its annual school magazine entitled ‘Jyotishman’. The fifteenth edition of ‘Jyotishman’ has already been published.

Besides, another academic attempt in promoting the literary development among the students is the school’s wall-magazine entitled ‘Kishalay’. Under the counsel of the teachers, the students get the opportunity to bloom their talents in editing, subject-selection, writing, decoration etc. The practice of composing hand-written magazines by different classes of the school is another positive aspect in the literary-cultural development of the students.
